I would like to introduce you to a master musician with over 30 years of experience which began at The Juilliard School, the keyboardist for the world famous progressive rock band Dream Theater, Jordan Rudess.

Jordan Rudess is in my opinion one of most talented and innovative rock musicians alive today, which is a pretty bold statement to make, however as you will see this from the interview and from the youtube video of a Dream Theater performance, he is a very talented, intelligent, concise, and a very progressive, future-now kind of thinker.

Jewish Mayhem had the amazing opportunity to meet “The Wizard” and to interview him before the Dream Theater concert later that day at the Molsons Ampitheater, to a completely sold out, capacity crowd. He was very generous to Jewish Mayhem with his time and patient with my mayhem and gave to me and to you, a special, live performance and demonstration of one of his projects: the JR Hexatone Pro – a unique iPhone sound sequencing app, which you can acquire here: JR Hexatone Pro . Jordan uses the Hexatone live on stage during Dream Theater’s performances, which I was able to see live that night, and the entire capacity crowd was completely mezmerized by his masterful, 21st century musical performance from beginning to the end.

I was blessed to get a very rich Dream Theater experience from sitting in the 3rd row, courtesy of Jordan himself, and then to go backstage after the show to the musicians lounge to thank Jordan again and to also meet rest of the band, and as it so happened, members of other bands such as Big Elf.

This song’s lyrics plus the singer’s raspy cigarette voice along with the band’s heavy metal sound make it stand out in my mind, I really like it. I found it on myspace on the band’s myspace page, which it seems has been since deleted. I do not know where the band is from in Israel or their names or how to contact them.

Jewish Gangsterz – Necro, Danny Diablo, Riviera Regime UPDATE

Underground Hip Hop juggernaught and head of PLR Necro, Hip Hop chainsaw, Lord Ezec aka Danny Diablo, and hardcore, grimey, army rappers Riviera Regime, generated a lot of interest in a new project that they were all collaborating on called Jewish Gangsterz, over a year ago.

The project’s mission statement states:

“We rep Hardcore Hiphop, Gangsta Rap, NY Hardcore, Metal Hiphop, Death Metal, Thrash, and many more sick styles. Currently just a crew trying to infiltrate the Israeli Market and of course anywhere else. Our crew has lots of non-jews down with us, but we wanted to create something that focuses on us being Jews with ties to Israel.”

Jewish Mayhem just asked NECRO what is going on with the project and NECRO had this to say to us, word for word.

Q: Jewish Mayhem: When you Ezec an RR dropping Jewish Gangsters?

A: NECRO: “I dont think that project is gonna happen the way you think, I’m not gonna do a group like that, but when I feel its the right time, I will start writing and recording it, and then Ezec will drop some shit, and I’ll get Regime to spit on it, but the group situation aint happening I already got some bangers for this project though, I got like 10 beats that are fucking insane in the stash, so it will happen at the right time.”

Jewish Metal Mayhem 010 – XAMAVAR

One of the biggest and freshest surprises to emerge from Israel’s robust underground metal / alternative / industrial music scene is a band by the name of Xamavar (pronounced Xam Ah var). Xamavar are known in Israel for their very unique and particular sound of Scottish bagpipes, classical violin, rocking metal guitar chops and relentless drums, accompanied by the operatic voice of their singer, who together produce music that is so refreshing to hear.

Savannah (vocals) is a vivacious opera-trained jazz singer from Australia, Shaemus (bagpipes) was instructed by some of the best pipers in Scotland, Jenia Fab (violin) received a meticulous musical education in St. Petersburg, Tsachi (drums) performed all over Europe with a renowned Israeli orchestra and Ramy (bass) is a self-taught musician and a devoted flower-child. Sadly the band just announced that Savannah is leaving to pursue her solo career and so they wish her well, but require a new singer of Savannah’s caliber.

Xamavar was founded by Jenia ‘J. Grand’ and Shaemus in October 2005. Xamavar’s music is conceived by Jenia ‘J. Grand’ (guitar), and the lyrics are jointly crafted by Shaemus and Savannah.

Blind Still Trill’, ‘Older Pink’ and ‘Spongy Doom’ are the first songs to be independently released by Xamavar, indicative of the eruptive energy and the mesmerizing/friendly complexity of their material.

‘Blind Still Trill’ has also been licensed for the compilation CD ‘Israel Unleashed’, released by JMG in November 2007.
