Tikun Olam (Eng. Fix the world)

Tikkun Olam is a phrase that you may or may not have heard about before. It is a Hebrew phrase that translates to “fixing world” in English, and literally means just that, go out and fix your society and your world. Tikkun Olam is that every human is responsible for one another and that therefore every human should help one another across the globe. It is a very noble movement and righteous sounding concept in the simplistic sense and thousands of Jews around the globe live their lives by it day to day.

But what is awkward and misleadingly false about the Tikkun Olam concept / philosophy is that while the words are Hebrew and the followers of Tikkun Olam are Jewish, at least by birth, Tikkun Olam is in fact not a “Jewish concept” as it is claimed by many “Tikkun Olam’rs”, but rather a modern, secular, Euro-merican one. Their is no mitzwah in the Torah “thy go out and fix the world”, nor is there any rabbinical halacha in the Mishna, Gemara or Shulchan Aruch either. Going out into the galut or the dispersion is a punishment for members of the Tribes of Israel according all Judaic sources and so how can “Tikkun Olam” possibly be Judaic? It isn’t, Tikkun Olam is simply put, a concept created by American, Liberal Jews in the 20th century for the purpose of attempting to subvert the actual Judaic tennent that all Jews are supposed to be in the Land of Israel and the 3rd Temple be rebuilt.

What does the Torah and Judaism do say about charity is and what Jewish charitable behavior is: “Ve’AhavtaLa’Reycha Kamocha“, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”, that is what it says .

What does it mean neighbor? Why not use the word human or gentile instead of neighbor, why the word neighbor? The answer is that most Jews, aka members from the tribe of Judah, aka descendants of the exiles from the 1st century C.E. State of Judea, lived in the Land of Israel around 1800 years ago and were all neighbors to one another, so to speak. When it is saying “love thy neighbor”, it is referring only to in relation to the behavior of Jew to fellow Jew within the land of Israel.
