A couple of years ago I was hocking t-shirts and playing roadie all across the United Kingdom and Ireland. I had been offered the gig by the traveling musician and performer, Kinky Friedman. It was towards the end of the tour, somewhere in the north of Ireland late one night after he finished his show, that I first heard the words “running for Governor of Texas” escape from his lips. The conversation is a little hazy, but what I can remember, and quite clearly at that, is hearing him state his intentions to run for office seemed quite natural. For others hearing of his intentions, not so.
